“With the theme, “Bata, ang piso mo bibo! (Child, your peso comes alive!),” a child can buy an ice cream, a notebook, crayons or pencil, or maybe a face powder or towel, for only one peso each. This event, the Children Piso Festival, was launched in S. Duterte Elementary School of Barangay Triumfo, Municipality of Carmen on June 26, 2009, as part of the 9th year founding celebration of Batang Pinangga.
Around 300 pupils did shopping-like spree. They crowded to buy school supplies, got a hair clip or a wrist band, and lined-up for the ice cream, with their faces filled with charm and excitement while holding their one-peso ticket.
It aims to give every child a venue to be free from worry and a carefree day with his/her peso.
The festival was sponsored by friends of Batang Pinangga, namely Geertjan Berman, Karin van Rooijen and Ben Prins from the Netherlands. Geertjan and Karin had visited the local school in July 2008.
The event is expected to be held in other communities.
